Prune Loaves - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. water
    1 c. snipped pitted dried prunes
    1 c. sugar
    1/4 c. shortening
    1 egg
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1 c. whole-wheat flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    In small saucepan, combine water and snipped prunes; bring to boil.
    Cover and simmer 3 minutes.
    Drain reserving 1/3 cup liquid. Set aside.
    Cream together sugar and shortening until fluffy; beat in egg.
    Combine buttermilk and reserved prune liquid.
    Stir together thoroughly all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder.
    Add to creamed mixture alternating with buttermilk mixture.
    Fold in cooked prunes.
    Bake in two 7 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2-inch loaf pans (greased).
    Bake at 350\u00b0 about 1 hour. Cool 10 minutes in pans; remove to wire racks.
