Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream
together shortening, sugar and eggs.
Make paste of cocoa and
part of food coloring.
Add this mix and rest of food coloring
to
shortening, sugar and eggs.
Sift together flour and salt.
Add flour and buttermilk alternately to cream mixture, starting with vinegar.
Add baking soda, then vanilla in batter; mix well.
Bake
in 9 x 12-inch pan at 350\u00b0.
Test for doneness; do not overbake.
