Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients

25 or 30 medium sized cucumbers
8 large white onions
3 large sweet peepers
1/2 cup salt
5 cups vinegar
5 cups sugar
2 tablespoons mustard
seed
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cloves
2 gallons large cucumber rings (Peeled and Cored)
2 cups lime
8 1/2 quart water (drain and wash, soak in cold water 3 hours, drain)
1 small bottle red food coloring
1 tablespoon alum
Water to cover

Preparation

Simmer 2 hours and drain.
Make syrup and bring to a boil.
