Vanderwahl Cake(Two 9-Inch Layers) - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. butter or margarine
2 c. sugar, divided
1 c. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
6 egg whites
Preparation

Sift flour once.
Measure.
Add baking powder and salt and sift again.
Cream butter with 1 1/2 cups of sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition.
Add vanilla and blend.
Beat egg whites until frothy throughout, then gradually beat in reserved half cup of sugar and continue to beat until the mixture holds in soft peaks.
Fold lightly but thoroughly through the batter.
Pour into two deep greased and floured 9-inch layer cake pans and bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for about 30 minutes or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and allow to stand in pans 5 minutes.
Then turn out on wire racks to cool and frost as desired.
