Portuguese Ham-Kidney Bean Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. smoked ham, cubed
    1 1/2 c. dried kidney beans
    1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
    4 stalks celery, chopped
    1 c. onion, chopped
    6 cloves garlic, chopped
    salt and pepper to taste
    3 carrots, chopped
    3 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
Preparation
    Cook ham in water to cover by 1 inch in 2-quart saucepan for 30 minutes or until tender.
    Add beans.
    Cook, covered, until beans are half-cooked.
    Add tomato sauce, celery, onion, garlic, salt and pepper.
    Simmer for 20 minutes.
    Add carrots and potatoes.
    Simmer for 20 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender.
    Serves 8.
