Fresh Cherry Cobbler - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. pitted, fresh, tart cherries
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/4 tsp. almond extract
    1 c. flour
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 400\u00b0.
    Blend 1 1/4 cups sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan.
    Stir in cherries and almond extract.
    Cook, stir constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to boil.
    Boil, stirring, for 1 minute.
    Pour into 2-quart casserole, not greased, and keep hot in oven while preparing topping.
