Toffee Squares - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 c. shortening (1 1/2 sticks margarine or butter), melted
1/2 c. corn syrup
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
2/3 c. chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation

Heat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease 15 x 10-inch jelly roll pan. Combine oatmeal, brown sugar, margarine, corn syrup, vanilla and salt.
Mix well.
Firmly press mixture into prepared pan.
Bake about 18 minutes or until brown and bubbly.
Remove from oven and let stand 10 minutes, then sprinkle with chocolate chips.
Spread over bars.
Nuts may be sprinkled over top of chocolate.
Cool completely and cut into squares.
Store tightly covered in cool, dry place.
Makes 6 dozen bars.
