Jule Kage(Norwegian Christmas Bread) - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 c. warm water
2 c. milk (I use powdered milk)
1/2 c. shortening (I use corn oil margarine)
4 beaten eggs
4 tsp. ground cardamon
1 c. golden raisins
1 c. dark raisins
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
2 pkg. active dry yeast
about 10 c. flour
1 lb. pkg. candied fruit mix
1/2 c. each: red and green cherries or currants
walnuts and red and green candied cherries (add if frosting)
Preparation
-
Mix yeast with lukewarm water in large mixing bowl.
(I use large Tupperware \"cake taker\" with lid to keep the dough warm.) Add milk, eggs and some flour and beat well.
Then add rest of ingredients and as much flour as needed to make soft, easy to handle dough.
Knead well and let rise until double, then knead again and let rise.
Put in 1 pound loaves or whatever you like (round cake pans, etc.) and rise until double.
Bake in a 300\u00b0 oven for 45 minutes (watch).
Frost and decorate as desired.
