Kentucky Gingerbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 egg
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 c. hot water
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 c. molasses
    2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and sugar.
    Add egg and beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and spices.
    Combine molasses and hot water and add alternately with flour mixture. Pour into 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan, greased and floured.
    Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 45 minutes.
    Cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pan and cut in squares.
