Hermit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. butter, softened
    1 1/2 lb. flour (3 c. plain)
    6 eggs, separated
    2 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1 lb. dates, chopped
    1 1/4 lb. brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1 lb. English walnuts
    1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
    juice of 1 lemon
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar.
    Add egg yolks well beaten.
    Sift flour with cinnamon twice, then add to creamed mixture.
    Dissolve baking soda in lemon juice and add to mixture.
    Beat well.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Stir in walnuts, dates and vanilla. Bake in a wax paper lined tube pan at 250\u00b0 for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until baked through.
