Savory Green Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 lb. fresh green beans
    2 Tbsp. chopped onions
    2 cloves garlic, halved
    3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. dried basil
    1/2 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation
    Wash beans and trim ends; remove strings.
    Cut in half crosswise.
    Using an iron skillet, heat oil and add onion and garlic.
    Cook until onion is tender; discard garlic.
    Add beans, boiling water and remaining ingredients.
    Cover and cook until beans are tender.
