War Cake 1943 - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. margarine
1/2 tsp. each: cloves and nutmeg
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. soda, well mixed with 1 tsp. hot water
1 c. chopped nuts
2 c. flour, mixed with 1 tsp. baking powder

Preparation

Boil first 6 ingredients for 5 minutes.
When cool, add soda mixture.
Add nuts and flour mixture.
Put in 8 x 8-inch greased and floured pan and bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
