Vidalia Onion Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 qt. sliced onions
    1/3 c. salt
    3 1/2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    3 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Slice onions; add salt and cover with ice and water.
    Let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain thoroughly.
    Combine remaining ingredients.
    Pour over onions and heat just to boil.
    Seal in hot sterilized jars.
