Ingredients

2 Tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. flour
2 1/2 c. or 1 can pitted cherries
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
Preparation

Cream butter and 1/2 cup sugar in bowl.
Sift flour, salt and baking powder together.
Add alternately with milk to the cream mixture.
Strain cherries; add water to the juice to make 1 1/2 cups liquid.
Add extract. Mix cornstarch with remaining sugar; add to liquid.
Add food coloring.
Pour hot juice over batter. Spread cherries over top.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven.
