Candy Date Roll - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 c. milk
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. coconut
Preparation
    Boil sugar and milk until it forms a soft ball when put in cold water.
    Add vanilla, then dates.
    Cook until it recedes from sides of pan.
    Cool.
    Add butter and beat until creamy; add nuts and coconut.
    Form into rolls.
    Place on oiled paper and set in refrigerator.
    Slice when cold.
