Ingredients

3/4 c. melted shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation

Mix shortening, sugar, molasses and egg.
Beat well.
Sift together dry ingredients, then add to first mixture.
Chill 1 hour.
Roll into 1-inch balls.
Top with sugar and bake on greased cookie sheet at 375\u00b0 for 6 to 7 minutes.
Great to store in freezer also.
