Hearty Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef for stew, cut into 3/4 inch cubes
    1/3 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. dry mustard
    1/2 lb. bacon
    1 (1 3/8 oz.) envelope onion soup mix
    3 c. water
    1 (1 lb.) can (2 c.) tomato sauce
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 c. barley
    1 (29 oz.) can Veg-All homestyle-mixed vegetables (including juice)
Preparation
    Coat beef with flour seasoned with salt and mustard.
    Cut bacon 1 inch pieces; fry in Dutch oven.
    Remove bacon pieces; add beef to bacon drippings.
    Brown beef on all sides.
    Add soup mix and Veg-All liquid plus water to give you 3 cups.
    Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
    Add tomato juice, sugar and barley.
    Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.
    Add bacon and Veg-All home-style vegetables.
    Simmer 20 minutes.
    Serves 6 to 8.
