Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers
    6 medium onions
    1 large green pepper
    1/3 c. salt
    3 c. pickling vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 Tbsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
Preparation
    Combine first 4 ingredients.
    Let stand 3 hours.
    Drain. Combine all other ingredients in large pot.
    Add cucumbers to vinegar mixture and heat to boiling.
    Put in jars.
    Seal while hot. (Water bath 15 minutes, optional.)
    Yield:
    About 6 pints.
