Hamburger Slices - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. sliced cucumbers (medium size)
    1/3 c. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    6 medium onions, sliced
    3 c. white vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    5 c. sugar
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers and slice.
    Add sliced onions.
    Sprinkle salt over.
    Now mix a tray of ice cubes through pickles and onions. Put another tray of ice on top and let stand 3 hours.
    You may need more ice.
    This ice, salt water makes pickles especially crisp.
    Drain cucumbers, discarding ice water.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices; bring to a boil.
    Add cucumbers and boil 8 to 10 minutes.
    Put into jars and seal.
