Old-Fashioned Stack Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. soda
    3 tsp. baking powder
    6 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. butter or shortening
    1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Cream sugar and butter.
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
    Sift flour.
    Measure with dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk and vanilla.
    Divide into 6 or 7 parts. Roll out mixture on a well-floured board or pat in well-greased 9-inch pans.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 until slightly brown, 10 to 20 minutes. Spread each layer with filling.
    Let stand in covered container at least 12 hours before cutting.
