Ingredients

1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
granulated sugar
Preparation

Cream butter, oil, powdered sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar and the egg in large bowl until light and fluffy.
Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in small bowl.
Add to creamed mixture with vanilla, stirring until dough is smooth. Cover; refrigerate 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Lightly grease cookie sheet.
Shape dough into balls the size of marbles. Place 2 inches apart; flatten each cookie to about 1/3 inch thick with bottom of glass dipped into granulated sugar.
Bake 10 minutes or until firm.
Don't overbake.
Remove to wire racks to cool. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
