Cream Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    9-inch baked pie shell
    3/4 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. cornstarch
    pinch of salt
    2 c. milk or light cream
    3 egg yolks, slightly beaten or cholesterol-free egg substitute
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Combine sugar, cornstarch and salt in 2-quart glass bowl. Gradually stir in milk.
    Microwave 8 minutes on Cookmatic level 8 or until thickened, stirring twice with wire whisk.
    (I stir after 2 1/2 to 3 minutes.)
    Stir a little of the hot mixture into egg yolks.
    Blend warm yolks into hot mixture.
    Microwave 2 minutes longer on \"8\" or until custard coats a metal spoon, stirring once. Stir in butter and vanilla.
    Top with meringue or whipped topping.
