Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 c. butter
    2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
    6 apples
Preparation
    Mix together the first 5 ingredients.
    Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt.
    Cut in the shortening.
    Add the milk. Pare and core the apples; cut in eighths.
    Roll dough until about 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut in 5-inch squares.
    Put 4 pieces apple in each square.
    Cover with sugar; generously sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
    Dot with butter.
    Place in greased baking pan.
    After pinching corners together, pour over syrup.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
