German Beer Coffee Cake - cooking recipe

3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. each: allspice and cloves
2 c. chopped dates
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 c. butter, softened
2 c. packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 c. beer (16 oz. can)
Preparation

Mix flour, soda, cinnamon, allspice and cloves. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add flour mixture, alternating with beer, blending well after each addition.
Stir in dates and nuts. Pour into well-greased 12-cup fluted tube pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Cool 10 minutes. Turn out on a rack to cool. Wrap in foil for 24 hours before serving. May sprinkle with confectioners sugar. Serve with Rum Butter Spread.
