Caramel Ice Cream - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar, divided
    1/2 gal. milk, divided
    6 to 10 eggs, beaten lightly
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. vanilla
    1 qt. heavy cream
Preparation
    Heat 1 cup milk.
    Melt 1 cup sugar until light brown color. Add hot milk and stir until sugar is dissolved.
    Beat the eggs; add remaining milk, sugar and salt.
    Add to cooked mixture and cook until eggs are done.
    Cool mixture; add vanilla and thick cream.
    Finish filling can with milk or cream.
    Makes 1 1/2 gallons.
