Sweet-Sour Stew - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
2 lb. stew meat, cubed
1/4 c. shortening
6 large carrots, cut in 3/4-inch pieces
3 to 4 potatoes, diced
1 c. water
1/2 c. ketchup
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt (optional)

Preparation

Combine flour, salt and pepper in a plastic or paper bag.
Add meat; shake to coat.
In large skillet, brown meat well in hot shortening.
Combine water, ketchup, sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and salt.
Add onion to taste.
Stir in browned meat.
Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes, stirring once or twice.
Add carrots and potatoes.
Cook 45 minutes more or until meat and vegetables are tender.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
