Lentil Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. Lentils (1 1/4 c.)
    5 c. Water
    1 Onion
    1 Carrot
    1 Green Pepper
    1 Tomato
    4 Slices Bacon
    3 Tbsp. Butter
    3 Tbsp. Flour
    1 can Consomme (10 1/2 oz.)
    2 tsp. Salt
    2 Tbsp. Vinegar
Preparation
    A goodly sized piece of left over ham to add to a ham hock, add salt and cover with water and simmer for 2 hours, remove meat from the bones and add it to the broth along with one pound of dry split peas, one large chopped onion and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder.
    Simmer for 3 or 4 hours stirring frequently.
    Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a sprinkle of parmesan cheese and a dash of paprika.
