Nectarine Blitz Torte - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    3/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
    4 eggs, separated
    1 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    3 Tbsp. milk
    1 1/3 c. sugar
    3 Tbsp. sliced almonds
    4 or 5 fresh nectarines
    1/2 c. whipping cream
Preparation
    Cream together the shortening and powdered sugar. Beat in egg yolks one at a time.
    Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
    Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
    Spread in 2 greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
    Beat egg whites until foamy.
    Add 1 cup of sugar a little at a time and continue beating until stiff.
    Spread over cake batter.
    Sprinkle each layer with 1 tablespoon each of sugar and almonds.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
    Dice 2 cups of nectarines and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of sugar.
    Place a layer of cake on serving platter, meringue side down, then nectarines and whipped cream; repeat. Serve.
