Spanish Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. brown sugar
    4 eggs (save 2 whites for topping)
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 tsp. each cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg
    1 c. sour milk with 1 tsp. soda added to milk
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. flour, sifted
    1 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Mix all together.
    Pour batter in a 9 x 12-inch baking dish. Spread the beaten egg whites to which was added 1 cup brown sugar. Sprinkle 1 cup chopped nuts on top. Bake for 1 hour at 300\u00b0.
