Apple Dumplings - cooking recipe

1 c. sugar
2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 c. margarine
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. Crisco
1/2 c. milk

Preparation

Make syrup of sugar, water, nutmeg, cinnamon and margarine. Cook over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes after coming to a boil; set aside.
Pare and core apples.
Sift flour, salt and baking powder.
Cut in shortening; mix, add milk and blend.
Divide dough into 6 balls.
Roll each ball into a 5 to 6-inch square.
Arrange 1 sliced apple on each square.
Sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Dot each with margarine.
Fold corners to center and pinch together.
Place in 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings.
Bake, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
