Pumpkin Cake(From 1975 Edition) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
    2 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    4 eggs, separated
    1 1/2 c. salad oil
    2 c. sugar
    1 1/2 c. pumpkin
    1 to 1 1/2 c. walnuts
Preparation
    Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry.
    Beat egg yolks until light and fluffy.
    Mix together oil and sugar in large bowl of electric mixer.
    Add beaten egg yolks and hot water; mix until blended.
    Add pumpkin.
    Gradually fold in sifted dry ingredients; add nuts.
    Fold in beaten egg whites.
    Pour batter into a 9-inch tube which has been greased and floured.
    Bake in a 375\u00b0 oven for 1 hour and 5 minutes or until done.
    Cool and ice with your favorite icing.
