Company Squash Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. (about 3 medium size) yellow squash, chopped
    1 medium onion, chopped
    3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1 c. milk
    5 slices processed American cheese, chopped
    1 (3 oz.) can chopped mushrooms, drained
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 c. cracker crumbs
    1/2 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Place squash and onion in boiling salted water, just enough to cover.
    Cover and cook 5 minutes; drain well and set aside.
    Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a heavy saucepan over hot heat; add flour and cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
    Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Add cheese and stir until melted.
    Combine the squash mixture, cheese sauce and mushrooms; spoon into a lightly greased 1 1/2-quart casserole.
    Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan; stir in cracker crumbs and pecans.
    Sprinkle mixture over squash.
    Bake casserole at 350\u00b0
    for 30 minutes.
