Turnips Au Gratin - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 lb. (about 6 c.) turnips, peeled and diced
1/4 c. butter or margarine
3 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp. salt
dash of pepper
2 c. milk
1/2 c. (2 oz.) shredded cheese
1 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
Preparation

Cook diced turnips until almost tender, about 5 minutes. Drain well. Melt 1/4 cup butter; stir in flour, salt and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook quickly, stirring constantly, over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat and add cheese, stirring until completely melted. Stir in cooked turnips. Turn into 10 x 6 x 2 baking dish. Combine bread crumbs and butter. Sprinkle on top of turnip mixture. Bake at 375\u00b0 until crumbs are golden brown, about 30 minutes. Serves 6 to 8.
