Country Fried Steak And Gravy - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 to 2 lb. round steak, cut 1-inch thick
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/4 to 1/2 c. flour
    dash of black pepper
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 small onion, finely chopped
    2 c. water
Preparation
    Cut steak into serving size.
    Season with salt and pepper. Beat steaks on both sides.
    Dredge with flour and brown in hot shortening.
    Add onions and stir in 2 tablespoons flour into drippings.
    Brown, if desired.
    Add water, cover and simmer 2 hours or until tender.
