Mama'S Boiled Frosting - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    3/4 c. water
    1 Tbsp. light corn syrup or 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    dash of salt
    2 stiff beaten egg whites
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cook first 4 ingredients over low heat; stirring until sugar dissolves.
    Cover pan 2 to 3 minutes to dissolve sugar crystals on sides of pan.
    Uncover.
    Cook to hard ball stage (236\u00b0) or until when you drop off of spoon you see tiny threads.
    Gradually add hot syrup to egg whites, beating constantly; add vanilla; beat until frosting is of spreading consistency; frost tops and sides of two (8 or 9-inch) layers.
    Add coconut on top of cake.
