Vegetable-Lentil Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (16 oz.) bag dried lentils, washed
    6 c. water
    3/4 c. chopped onion
    2/3 c. chopped green pepper
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1 (1 lb. 14 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
    salt and pepper to taste
    thyme or marjoram (optional)
Preparation
    Combine lentils, water and salt in large saucepan.
    Cook, covered, over medium heat for 30 minutes.
    Cook onion and pepper in butter until tender.
    Combine all ingredients; simmer, covered, 30 minutes.
