Green Tomato Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. green tomatoes, sliced
    8 large onions, chopped
    1 to 2 c. hot peppers, chopped
    3 to 4 bell peppers, sliced
    1/2 c. canning salt
    ice water
    1 qt. vinegar
    1 qt. sugar
    ice
Preparation
    Mix tomatoes, onion, hot peppers and bell peppers in large container and sprinkle with salt.
    Cover with ice.
    Let stand 1 hour, then drain.
    Mix vinegar and sugar in large pan.
    Add drained tomato mixture.
    Bring to a boil.
    Fill hot jars and seal.
    Do not cook.
    Add spices, if desired.
    Very good in about 2 weeks.
