Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 pounds medium cucumbers, sliced (4 quarts)
    1 pound onions, sliced
    1 large green pepper, sliced
    1 teaspoon turmeric powder
    1/2 teaspoon powdered cloves
    1/2 cup pickling salt
    3 quarts ice water
    6 cup sugar
    3 teaspoons celery seed
    2 tablespoons mustard seed
    5 cup cider vinegar
Preparation
    Wash and peel onions.
    Slice cucumbers and onions 1/4 inch thick.
    Cut pepper in slices.
    Dissolve salt in ice water; pour over all vegetables.
    Let stand 3 hours; drain.
    In large kettle, mix sugar, spices and vinegar.
    Add vegetables and heat to boiling.
    Put hot pickles into prepared jars and seal at once. Allow pickles to ripen 1 week before using.
