Yeast Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. milk, scalded
    1/3 c. water
    1/3 c. plus 1 tsp. sugar
    1 pkg. yeast
    1/2 c. shortening
    2 eggs
    1 c. mashed potatoes
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    4 c. flour
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients and mix well.
    Let rise until doubled in size.
    Work down and roll out 1/4-inch thick.
    Cut with doughnut cutter.
    Let rise until doubled in size.
    Fry in hot oil. Drain well.
    Yields 3 dozen.
