Western Beans - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 bacon strips, diced
    1 large onion, chopped
    1/3 c. dry lentils
    1 1/3 c. water
    2 Tbsp. ketchup
    1 tsp. garlic powder
    3/4 tsp. chili powder
    1/2 tsp. ground cumin
    1/4 tsp. dried red pepper flakes
    1 bay leaf
    1 (16 oz.) can whole tomatoes with liquid, chopped
    1 (15 oz.) can pinto beans, drained
    1 (16 oz.) can kidney beans, drained
Preparation
    Lightly fry bacon in a heavy, 3-quart saucepan.
    Add onion; cook until transparent.
    Stir in remaining ingredients; cook over medium heat for 45 minutes, or until lentils are tender, stirring once or twice.
    Remove bay leaf before serving.
    Yields 8 to 10 servings.
