Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    11 c. water
    1 c. pickling salt
    2 Tbsp. alum
    cucumbers (to fill gal. jar)
    white vinegar (enough to cover cucumbers)
    2 Tbsp. pickling spice
    9 c. sugar
Preparation
    Mix water with pickling salt and boil.
    Let cool.
    Slice cucumbers into gallon jar.
    Pour water over cucumbers and let sit 14 days.
    Drain and rinse.
    Cover with cold water to which alum is added.
    Let set 24 hours.
    Drain water and cover with white vinegar.
    Put pickling spice in a bag and add to jar.
    Let set 24 hours.
    Drain vinegar.
    Add 3 cups sugar.
    Stir well.
    Repeat sugar for a total of 3 days.
    They make their own juice. May be left in jar or put in smaller jars. They do not need to be sealed.
