Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 medium cucumbers
    8 large white onions
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. white vinegar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions thin, pour salt over them and let stand 3 hours.
    Drain off all the liquid.
    Mix sugar, vinegar, mustard seed, turmeric and celery seed.
    Bring to a boil.
    Add cucumbers and onions.
    Heat to a boiling point but do not boil. Pack in hot jars and seal.
