Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 cucumbers
    8 medium white onions
    2 large, sweet bell peppers
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. cider vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves (ground)
Preparation
    Cut cucumbers, onions and peppers in large dishpan, etc.
    Add salt and cover with lots of ice.
    Let stand for 3 hours, stirring occasionally so salt will be distributed evenly through cucumbers. In another large pot, combine vinegar, sugar and other spices. Bring to a boil.
    Drain cucumbers and add them to the vinegar mixture.
    Heat thoroughly but do not boil.
    Pack in jars and seal at once.
