Ingredients
    1/2 c. cocoa
    1 1/2 c. hot strong coffee
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. shortening
    1 3/4 c. brown sugar
    3 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp. maple extract
Preparation
    Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl; add shortening and hot coffee.
    Blend; add eggs, one at a time.
    Beat well after each addition; add flavorings.
    Pour into two 9-inch round pans or a 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Let cool and frost.
