Country Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 potatoes, pared and diced
    2 carrots, pared and thin sliced
    2 medium onions, sliced
    several lettuce leaves
    several celery leaves
    1/8 tsp. basil
    1 bay leaf
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    3 1/2 c. water
    2 c. light cream
    butter (for topping)
Preparation
    In saucepan, place potatoes, carrots, onions, lettuce, celery, basil, bay leaf, salt and pepper.
    Cover with cold water.
    Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour.
    Pass mixture through food mill, strainer or puree in blender.
    Measure puree; add 1 cup light cream for every 3 cups puree.
    Heat thoroughly.
    To serve, top with small lump of butter.
    Serves 6 to 8.
