Sopa De Fideo - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1/2 lb. vermicelli, broken into small pieces
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. pepper
    3 minced cloves garlic
    2 c. thinly sliced onions
    2 c. thinly sliced celery
    1/2 c. finely chopped green pepper
    1 (No. 2 1/2) can tomatoes
    1 1/2 c. vacuum-packed whole kernel corn
    1 tsp. chili powder
    1 c. water
    8 oz. pkg. American cheese slices
Preparation
    Preheat electric skillet to 300\u00b0.
    Melt shortening.
    Saute vermicelli until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
    Add beef and cook, stirring until meat loses red color.
    Stir in next 8 ingredients.
    Add tomatoes and water.
    Stir gently.
