Green Beans And Water Chestnuts With Sour Cream And Herb Sauce - cooking recipe

1 lb. fresh green beans or 2 (10 oz. size) pkg. frozen beans
1 (5 oz.) can water chestnuts, drained or 1 c. diced celery, cooked 5 minutes
2 Tbsp. butter
2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. marjoram
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. white pepper
1/2 c. sour cream
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. bread crumbs
2 Tbsp. melted butter
Preparation

Clean and cut green beans into 1-inch pieces.
Cook beans and drain.
Slice water chestnuts.
Saute onion in butter until golden.
Add herbs, seasonings, sour cream and milk.
Heat, but do not boil.
Combine beans, water chestnuts and onion mixture into a 1 1/2-quart buttered casserole.
Combine bread crumbs and melted butter.
Sprinkle on top.
Bake at 375\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes, until crumbs are nicely browned.
Serves 8.
