Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

1 stick margarine
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
5 whole eggs
2 c. flour (self-rising)
1 tsp. soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. coconut
1 c. pecans
Preparation

Cream butter and Crisco, add sugar and beat until mixture is smooth.
Add egg yolks and beat well.
Sift flour and soda, add to mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in coconut and nuts, fold in stiffly beaten egg whites, to which you have added 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Bake in 3 (9-inch) pans for 25 minutes at 350\u00b0.
