War Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
4 tsp. hot water, divided
2 tsp. shortening
1/2 to 3/4 c. raisins
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour

Preparation

In medium saucepan, mix brown sugar, 2 teaspoons hot water and shortening.
Add raisins, salt, cinnamon and cloves.
Boil ingredients for 5 minutes after it first bubbles.
Remove and let cool completely (important).
