2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
colored decorating sugars
Preparation

Sift flour and salt together onto waxed paper.
Beat butter or margarine, sugar and egg in large mixing bowl at high speed for 3 minutes or until fluffy; blend in vanilla.
Stir in flour mixture to make a stiff dough; wrap in waxed paper; chill 3 hours or until firm enough to roll.
